The purpose of this self-paced online course is to introduce community capacity building and provide guidance for community members who are wanting to build capacity within their own community to address the prevention of a health issue of concern. Through community capacity building, dedicated individuals and groups within communities can contribute to primary prevention of negative health outcomes before they occur. By taking collective action, communities can build on existing strengths, provide opportunities for local individuals to learn new knowledge and skills, and work together to overcome challenges and improve health outcomes in their community.
This course is divided up into five sections, in which 9 steps to doing community capacity building are introduced and described. At the end of each description of a step, there is a blue box with an example of Community A using community capacity building around the prevention of FASD.
The course should take someone approximately an hour to work through. Please note that, at this time, this course does not have a certificate of completion.
