This self-paced online module is designed to support service providers, organizations, and community members in Saskatchewan by introducing the six key components of successful community-led strategies. These approaches are based on research and real-world experiences.

Community-led strategies build on local strengths, respect cultural practices and values, foster local leadership, and remove barriers that prevent people from accessing help. This module will highlight the importance of ongoing evaluation and regular updates to ensure programs remain relevant and effective. Together, these strategies empower communities to take meaningful action, overcome challenges, and improve health outcomes for individuals and communities across the region. Once these key components are understood, they can be applied to address alcohol-related harms. Before moving forward, take a moment to reflect on how your community has addressed challenges in the past. What made the approach your community took successful?

Learning Objectives
This module is designed to help you identify and understand the importance of several key components of successful community-led Initiatives. It is the hope that, with this knowledge, you will feel more equipped to apply these strategies in the development of local solutions aimed at addressing alcohol-related harms in Saskatchewan communities.

Target Audience

This module is designed for community members, organizations, and service providers who are interested in reducing alcohol-related harms through community-led initiatives. It is structured to be accessible to both professionals and community members, ensuring that everyone can engage with the content and apply it in real-world settings.

This course is divided up into five sections, in which 9 steps to doing community capacity building are introduced and described. At the end of each description of a step, there is a blue box with an example of Community A using community capacity building around the prevention of FASD.

The course should take someone approximately an hour to work through. Please note that, at this time, this course does not have a certificate of completion.
