The third step of community capacity building is to define the community (or communities) you aim to work with to help address the issue of concern. The term “community” can describe specific people with something in common, a region, a neighborhood, or the broader public [3]. Determining what you and those you are working with mean by “community” is essential when developing a plan; otherwise, different people can interpret it differently.
Step 3 – Define the Community Example
The community team decides that the “community” that they are targeting are those who reside in Community A. Subgroups being targeted are 1) service providers who provide services that could be inclusive to pregnant people, 2) community members, and 3) people who are pregnant.
