Step 9 – Evaluate

The last step of the CCB process is to evaluate the work and activities implemented. The evaluation requires the same level of attention as planning and implementation, and ideally, the evaluation plan should be prepared concurrently with the implementation plan. Insights into the implementation process can be acquired through designing a thoughtful evaluation strategy, and well-stated goals and objectives can help with the development of that evaluation plan [18].

There are two types of evaluations that can be conducted [19]:

  • Process evaluation – This is an ongoing, real-time evaluation to assess the reach and efficiency of the implementation efforts and identify any issues with the process. It is integrated into the implementation phase to ensure the efforts being made align with the established goals and objectives of the CCB. In other words, it can serve as a warning mechanism for delivery issues and inform modifications for improved outcomes.
  • Outcome evaluation – This is an evaluation of the effectiveness of the work in addressing the key issues. It is conducted at the end of the work to evaluate the impact and how well the goal has been achieved.

To effectively evaluate both the implementation process and the impact of your CCB, design your evaluation plan before you begin implementation. The process evaluation findings can be used to adapt the process during implementation. Outcome evaluation will let you know how effective your project was in achieving your goals. At the end of the project, compile and distribute an evaluation report to the community team members to share the impact of the learning opportunities and resources and inform future CCB efforts [18].

Step 9: Evaluate Example

Please see the table below for an example of an evaluation plan for the first objective.

GoalBuild the capacity of service providers and family members and/or partners to support pregnant people to have alcohol-free pregnancies by providing supportive, safe community spaces and opportunities.
ObjectiveObjective 1: Hold a networking event for service providers and community groups to discuss services and events that focus on providing opportunities for support and socialization for pregnant people in the community in June 2023.
